A longer life should also be a more accessible life
Functional ability connects scientific progress with the everyday conditions of healthy ageing.
Editorial and translation draft — prepared for local preview, pending human review.
WHO's baseline frames healthy ageing around people's ability to meet needs and maintain function. This broadens the discussion beyond laboratory biomarkers.
Our interpretation: Equitable Longevity needs measures of care access, independence and participation alongside biomedical innovation. A research agenda can ask who gains access, which barriers remain and whether benefits reach people with the greatest unmet needs. These questions make the longevity economy a public-outcomes discussion as well as an innovation discussion.
